Studio pottery bowl attributed to Alexandre Kostanda, Vallauris

Small bowl with incised pattern. Excellent condition, 12 x 7 cm

Kostanda, 1921 - 2007, polish-born of Russion parents and emigrated to Lorraine,  later moved to Vallauris, France. Porcelain and ceramics is a family affair and his mother introduced him to Louis Giraud's workshop where she used to work as a decorator.  Alexandre joined as an apprentice from 1936-38. he would later run the company from 1949 until 53 when he opened his own buiness. He taught pottery at the Longchamps Pottery Training Section near Dijon and at the School of Decorative Arts in Beaune.
